The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) is a Registered Charity which exists to save life at sea. It provides, on call, the 24-hour service necessary to cover search and rescue requirements to 50 miles out from the coast of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. The Trent class lifeboat has been designed and developed by RNLI staff as a permanently afloat lifeboat to replace the now ageing fleet of Waveney's. The design requirement was for a lifeboat capable of great speed and providing protected propellers and the ability to take the ground if required. The Trent is capable of 25 knots and, like all new all-weather lifeboats, is self-righting after a capsize.

The Model: the kit includes approximately 1200 parts and is recommended for the more experienced model maker. With twin propellers Trent is highly manoeuvrable and performance on the water is realistic and true to scale. 

The hull lines are copyright. Model Slipway are licenced to produce this kit and £10 is paid in support of the RNLI for every kit sold.

Model Specification: Twin screw - Scale 1:16 - Length  36" (918 mm) - Beam  12.4" (317 mm) - Displacement approx. 17.6 lbs (8 kg)

Kit Contents: A detailed glassfibre hull; running gear including propellers. Die-cut and printed styrene for deck, superstructure and a highly detailed wheelhouse interior which includes seven seats, tables and instrumentation. A set of cast metal fittings and two sheets of etched brass components. Vacuum formed model stand. Names and registration numbers to build any one of 17 vessels of the class. (Crew figure, the flag, paints and adhesives are not provided).
